Week Three Homework was to photograph your puppets in dramatic poses. Remember just choose the best poses to post. And please post these before the next class! The Deadline is Friday Oct. 3 at midnight!

What material & how to fabricate smooth skin texture for cute character style?

Depends what you mean by "cute character style". You can sculpt the head in oil based clay, and cast it in either a plastic or silicone. That would give you a smooth finish. Or you can use sculpy, and not bake it, if you want to be able to have some flexibility in facial expressions. You have to resculpt most frames though. So it depends on the animation you want to do, and what the puppet will be doing.

Everyone's work looks so great! I'm envious! I'm sorry but I am very far behind in building my puppet and set. Grad school at Academy of Art University (online) started September 4th and I am drowning in my bad drawings! I am doing an MFA in Animation and Visual Effects with an emphasis in Stop Motion. They do have many stop motion courses - in puppet design, set fabrication, and animation but you cannot take them until after your midpoint review. So I have to survive all of these drawing based courses first before I can get to the good stuff! Did I mention that I cannot draw? Anyway, the assignments are all due at 11:59 pm Sunday night and every time I think I have successfully finished the assignment and have turned it in early I receive critiques and reviews which tell me that I must redo them! Anyway, I am very disappointed to be behind in this webinar but I appreciate all of the great work everyone has done so far! Fantastic zombies, guys!

Yes, I have been having some issues, too. Some amature tree trimmer cut the wrong something a couple weeks ago and took out the cable (and thus my internet) for my entire building. The servicer -- I don't want to name any names, but *cough*Comcast*cough* -- still hasn't fixed it properly. The only internet I currently have at home is my cellular data, which is not unlimited or very high. I have watched what I can without breaking the bank, but I'm not sure if I'll make this last class, either.

So, my questions are, when is our completed short going to be due and will we still be able to get some guidance and feedback on here (or elsewhere) for a little while after the webinar portion ends? I am still elbows-deep into this thing and I want to see it through. Sorry if either or both of these questions have been answered previously.

Oh, and one note on Trista's answer to Banya above - if you're going to try silicone, make sure you sculpt with a sulphur-free clay. Sulphur can keep the silicone from setting up. I like Chavant NSP personally, but there are others.

I don't get a whole lot of movement from my puppet - too many layers of crap! BUT, after messing around and getting a little test footage, it seems to be ok as a learning tool.

This is a very scary zombie character. Make sure the clothing is attached to the form at the shoulders, biceps, forearms, upper thighs and calves. Remember to stipple latex to ad some body to fabric that may be too thin and might buckle during animation. Very nice work as well, on your set .

Nice character, natural poses. make sure you attach wardrobe at key points to minimize the chatter.
