Re: Hippie Predator Suit Build
Thank you very much! It's been a tremendous amount of work to get it all done, but just seeing it on, and people's reactions have made it all worth it.Carissa Alanis said:This is PHENOMENAL!!! Great work

Reefer Madness puppets. Weed Wolf Ralph with Decapitated Sally
Music by Dan Studney, David Manning, Nathan Wang
Written by Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney
While these characters originated from the musical, the puppet designs are entirely my own original creations.
About the Puppets:
The Weed Wolf Ralph is a live-hand puppet. His skull was first sculpted from polymer clay, then translated into a foam pattern. The final puppet head is built from 1-inch poly foam. “Decapitated Sally” was created using a modified pattern from The Puppet Project. Materials used across both puppets include monster fur, safety eyes, Styrofoam balls, felt, and soft-sculpted foam.
Recognition:
Our production was entered into several competitions through the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. I received the Meritorious Achievement Award, the Society of Properties Managers Award for Outstanding Puppetry, and—alongside the two other student designers—the National Award for Outstanding Puppetry Design and Construction.

“The Banderbear” Poseable OOAK Puppet

Made entirely by myself from scratch, he has an aluminium wire skeleton, a faux fur soft body stuffed with wadding and hand sculpted and painted head, hands and feet.
"Cordyceps Bloom" Creature Making Contest 2025
This character was created as a tribute to the incredible work of the makeup and prosthetics team behind HBO’s The Last of Us.
Their attention to detail, the richness of the colors, and the way they brought the infection to life through makeup is nothing short of breathtaking. Their artistry has been a major inspiration for me.
I wanted to explore what the infection might look like at a later stage of mutation, when the fungus has fully taken over the host — pushing through the skull, bursting from the brain, and spreading across the face and torso in vivid, grotesque textures.
To bring this idea to life, I sculpted and applied multiple custom-made prosthetic elements and texture pieces, building layers of color and form to give the illusion of fungal growth overtaking the human anatomy. I aimed for a vibrant, saturated look — something organic yet striking.
Interestingly, once the model stepped onto set in full makeup, the team couldn’t help but laugh and say:
“He looks like he just stepped off the Flying Dutchman!”
Apparently, we accidentally sailed into Pirates of the Caribbean territory — part fungus, part crew!
Still, this project is, above all, a love letter to practical creature effects. It’s a celebration of transformation, sculpture, storytelling through texture — and a nod to the masters who continue to push the boundaries of what makeup can be.

Hippie Predator Suit Build

Instead of purchasing a suit or the parts, I decided I was going to build it myself. Fortunately, I had not only the vast knowledge to be gained from the Stan Winston School of Character Arts fantastic courses but the support and encouragement of many members of the Hunter's Lair predator costume/prop community.
It all began with sculpting my first predator head out of WED clay last year. Fortunately I was able to get some great tips and learn how to work with it and mold and cast from the courses...
How to Make a Latex Rubber Mask - Tim Martin
And
How to Sculpt with WED Clay - Tim Martin

I also had to learn airbrushing, so I would not have been able to do any of this without the courses...
How to Airbrush - Craig Fraser
How to Paint a Monster Mask - Steve Wang
Then for the creature suit, I made my first muscle suit this March utilizing techniques picked up from the courses...
Muscle Suit Fabrication - Ted Haines
And
Make a Monster Suit - Alec Gillis
Taking all these various skills I have learned over the last year, I combined everything. So for the last month and a half I cast a latex head, made molds and cast polyurethane dreads, made a foam muscle suit and coated it in a latex skin, built foam armor, weapons, and a staff. It's been a hectic few weekends doing this all in the limited spare time I've had, but I'm proud of the results I've achieved bringing my take on Hippie from the Lost Tribe as seen at the end of Predator 2 to life.
Hope you enjoy!

Re: Hippie Predator Suit Build

Creature Name: Tricerascourge (Try-SAIR-uh-skurge)
Created by: Chad Leduc for Labyrinthia
Description:
Introducing Tricerascourge, a biomechanical juggernaut born from ancient
tech and primal DNA. This gladiator-style beast is a sentinel within the alien
labyrinth known as Labyrinthia, where it patrols the endless shifting
corridors, challenging any who dare enter.
Design Inspiration:
This creature was inspired by my two biggest creative influences: the legendary
Predator design by Stan Winston—a perfect blend of alien menace and
tribal warrior—and my lifelong fascination with Roman gladiators. Tricerascourge
is my homage to both: a savage arena champion fused with brutal, futuristic
tech.
Materials & Process:
This creature was kitbashed using parts sourced from the dollar store—dinosaur
toy pieces combined with a vintage He-Man action figure as the base body. Key
tools used in the build included two-part Apoxie Sculpt putty for seamless
blending and sculpting, and super glue for strong, permanent bonding between
parts.
Additional detailing—like the straps, belts, and mechanical armor pieces—was crafted using Worbla, a heat-moldable thermoplastic. The entire figure was hand-painted and weathered to give it a battle-hardened, aged appearance, bringing the creature to life as a weathered warrior in the world of Labyrinthia.
Backstory (Lore):
Within the labyrinth's ever-changing walls, Tricerascourge is both
executioner and trial. Genetically engineered by the ancient Architects of Labyrinthia,
this creature was designed to blend brute force with mechanical precision. Its
triceratops headplate doubles as a ramming helmet and sensory array, while its
shielded arms deliver crushing blows. Many challengers have entered the maze...
none have escaped Tricerascourge.
Why It Belongs in the World of Labyrinthia:
Labyrinthia is a place of traps, trials, and terror. Tricerascourge
fits perfectly as one of its most feared inhabitants—a relic of a forgotten
war, eternally bound to defend the labyrinth’s secrets.

Contest entry Star Wars Devaronian Bust
I sculpted it in WED clay, molded with Ultra-cal 30 and casted in thick RD407 latex.
I really tried to kept the sculpt, paint and paint as authentic as the original and keep it simple and efficient. The side eyes are also a nod to that famous shot that I glossed with a layer of Gorilla Glue.
