If you're casting in hard plaster, a soft (rubber-like) painted mold with a hard (two or three piece) jacket for support is probably what you want to use. You're also definitely going to want to temporarily fill in the eye and nose cavities. Liquid latex is viscus enough where if you're careful painting it on there wont be…

Thanks for sharing the process!

Excellent line work!

That's a great looking tiny sculpt! I think you should consider investing in an airbrush. It's a great little tool to have with multiple uses and will certainly help you attain natural looking gradients for your portraiture. I typically lay down a base coat of the colors I wish to derive values from in the end, and blend…

Thrift store! Also, build to create a strong silhouette. As mentioned earlier, but bears repeating, know your materials and be aware of any handling hazards.

Neat sculpt! Sabertooth?

That's a great table and terrifically animated walk cycle. The hand animation was a nice touch in the 1st video ;D

Wow! She's got great looking sculptures! As far as the puppet is concerned, I don't see why one can't combine the two forms. The foam would have to be rigid enough to support the underlying shape with the additional weight of the felt material all while making certain mechanical movement is clear of obstructions. I'm not…

Genuinely terrifying, I love the strong shapes & clear silhouette. Terrific painting and materials use.
-
Neat tutorial, I love all the textures you were able to accomplish!
-
Neat little rod puppet creature, I loved the movement the operators got out of it.
-
10/10 fantastic puppet - Congratulations!

Blacklights, neon posters, RGB led accent lights, and chem glow sticks/bracelets/misc. for the glow in the dark part. No clue about the gothic section, but bats are probably a safe start. I don't know your prowess as a maker so I can't begin to suggest all the things to build. Good luck!

I'm loving those shapes!
-
Neat build! I love the paint job on the teeth.

Blocking out forms and space. Also, elected not to computer model and 3D print because reasons. On a very related note - building animatronics for a short film in the spirit of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I've been living the phrase "bumping the lamp" for a few weeks now lol

Nice one! I pulled the trigger and bought a Robo3D a ways back and have been thoroughly enjoying the convenience of rapid prototyping "in house". I joked about getting a 2nd printer but at that price for the Afinibot A9 and your solid review.. my next course of action is clear lol

Update: I bought that paint and tested on some 3d printed and rotocast resin copies of my blue american staffordshire terrier ( a.k.a. pit bull ) (( base is airbrushed plaster, also 3d modeled/printed/molded/rotocast ))

@"Chris Ellerby" I spent hours looking for what's called an "e-ring" to keep rods in place (my roto caster). At the time, it looked more like a 'C' to me.. c-lock, c-clamp, c-ring? Google's and eBay's c-rings were not the c-rings I was looking for.

Thanks Chris! Hate to say it here, but the RPF was my first go-to forum for seeking out project references o:) I did like the way the artist handled the design though I must admit the skull looked a tad surprised. I'm a bit of a nit-picky fiend when it comes to detail. I am extremely interested in trying that Rub 'n Buff…

This is great!

I usually hold my items up to a blank wall or a door. My latest photo on my page feed illustrates a door background. If you scroll down a bit, my 3D printed ornament was pictured in front of a wall. Trade secret, btw.. shhhhhh

Neat progress thread! I would be lying if I didn't say I learned a new, more efficient, technique.

This is a nicely colored piece, but feels lacking a solid depth of field by exhibiting uniform values and therefor rendering itself flat. I find the creature's stance to be off balance and "unnatural" primarily because of the tight cropping which I'm not sure was done because there are simply no legs drawn by choice or you…
-
I agree with Chris about Photoshop/Illustrator, and add that having a pressure-sensitive input device, like a stylus and tablet, will probably make your Photoshop experience more enjoyable for drawing.

Terrific article, thanks for the share.

Great color pallet! The only off-putting element is the strikingly similar Honda logo/emblem on their suits. Unless this expedition is funded by the car company, like a Weyland-Yutani, the thought only raises more questions lol

Impressive build and design!

Dang, that's a whole lotta dinosaur. Terrific pose!

The raptor's eye really sells the dental procedure, well played!
