Well, Here's a drawing of the basic concept of the Earthworm.
-
I honestly think that the tallest cast I'd make would be about 12 inches high. I intend to use 1/16" Poly-carbonate sheet. My machine is about 24" by 24". Right now, the heating element is basically parabolic dish heater at the bottom of a wooden box! I might eventually upgrade to using am IR heater. What do you suggest?

That's Nice Chris! You care to post some plans?
-
That looks nice! You could make a replica of the Doorman at Jabba's Palace!
-
Ever seen a tentacle with 1" discs?
-
Cool! I didn't expect anybody to actually participate in this poll!
-
That's Cool! I mean, what diameter discs were used in the smallest!
-
@"Chris Ellerby" In fact, I've got a test for it that I'm working on even as we speak!
-
Hey, anybody know what the smallest 4- way tentacle mechanism ever machined was?
-
Thanks Chris and David!
-
Now, for the tentacle mechanisms, the first stage of the tentacle is going to have bigger discs than those of the second stage. as for the end stage. I'm going to have an open-close mechanism on the end, similar to that of the imp-tongue that Richard Landon showed in his lesson.

This is Sweet! You should do the Iron Monger next! Or get even more creative and try your hand at Lex Luthor's Warsuit!!
-
How much clay for a sculpt that big?
-
This is great! Hey, for the speedometer cable, do I have to use set screws to clap the vertebrae in place, or can I just use epoxy?
-
you can also use mod podge
-
@"Chris Ellerby" Thank you! Also, could I make a fiberglass cast in a silicone mold?
-
That looks cool! I can see you doing a Godzilla-style King Kong film with this beast!
-
Thank you Chris! Also, you think you can ask them where you get polyester mud? I mean, do you add some kind of agent to polyester resin to thicken it into mud?
-
@"Chris Ellerby" I know they can be! But they don't exactly make servos projects of this scale! My pneumatics are actuated by compressed air!
-
@"Chris Ellerby" Thank you! By all means! Make your own mechanism with them! They're designed to fit these acrylic eyes
-
Maybe I should build one!
-
what I meant was, they should show us how to machine the pulley-controller
-
I've seen people 3d print the discs, but I don't really have the money for that. (at the moment) However, there is this site where you can get cast-able materials from. It's called www.smooth-on.com, and I've made good use of their stuff before. In the summer of 2012, I made a green-lantern ring with this method.
-
If you want Cad files for the eye-lids, click here
-
now that's creative! you should try your hand at Darkman!
-
@ Chris Ellerby Well, I can afford to order a few 3D Printed parts. The eye-lids can be printed. I mean, I know the diameter of the eyes I'll be using. The rest of the mechanism however, I'll machine myself.
-
I'm also working on a maquette sculpture as well!
-
@"David Boccabella" I believe the correct term is lycanthropy, but hey! We're all only human!
-
@Christine Ramirez Nice! Keep it going! What was your inspiration for doing special effects?
-
Ah Yes! I remember my early days as a young special-effects master! When I was in high-school, I made my own Freddy Krueger for a Halloween vid that I made! I'd be delighted to lend you a hand!
