Chose form

Hello,
First of all, thank you all for your sharing of ideas and your projects. I have stars in my eyes thanks to you!
I apologize for my english, being french, i use our google friend to help me a little :)

That's it, I'm going into foam manufacturing, it's time to make a choice on the foams I'm going to work with. In the videos, you talk about L200 of TF-12, I try to find similar products in France, but here we do not have the same names.

If I understand correctly, the L200 is cross-linked polyethylene at a density of 2 lbs / ft3? Is it identical to Evazote or Plastazote foam?
Regarding the TF-12 is poly foam, but what poly is spoken? And if I'm not mistaken the dentis is 1.2 lb / ft3.

Do you have advice on the choice of corresponding foam in France or important points to pay attention to the purchase?

I thank you in advance for all the information shared.

Good day to you
cordially
Patrick

    Hi Patrick,

When people can not find L200, L300, or other similar foams my suggestion is to look for EVA foam.  My understanding, based on information from foam distributers like Foammart is that L200 and EVA foam are the same thing.  The L200 is just a way of identifying specific densities.

Finding foam under the more general name of EVA may be easier.  One source that is popular in the cosplay community is EVA anti-stress floor mats.  The challenge with those is you typically have a textured side that needs to either be sanded down or hidden as your internal surface.

EVA foam floor mats can usually be found at hardware stores.

To help find local sources of foam I would recommend looking into local cosplay communities to see where they are finding their foam.  They would know every possible source.

Here are a few sources I found via google.

    https://www.cosplaymat.com/fr/131-creamousse-eva

    https://www.cosplay-craft.fr/fr/6-mousse

    Hope that helps!

  • Hi Chris,

Thank you very much for taking your time to answer me, as well as for all the details shared.

I came to the same conclusion, it reassures me. :)

The density of the L200 is 2 lb / ft3?

Ted uses what density of foam to make the texture of his dinausor and it's also closed-cell polyetylene that he uses or another foam?

Thank you in advance for your answer.

    Have a good day

    Patrick
  • My pleasure!

The Density of L200 is 2.0lb per cubic foot.   L300 is 3.0lb per cubic foot, etc.

You can find more detailed material properties for these foams in this PDF

Some of his details are carved into L200 foam, and for some he is using 12-TF Upholstery Foam.
