Ursula
Here is my creature contest entry. I am a hobbyist that helps out with my local children's theater group. I am typically asked by the director to create various over-sized creatures. When the group performed The Little Mermaid I was asked to create Ursula as well as her sidekicks Flotsam and Jetsam. I employed techniques I learned by watching SWSCA videos by Ted Haines and Richard Landon. Ursula was created on a rolling platform with plywood, rigid foam and soft foam with her cable controlled tentacle mechanism being custom machined. She stands 8ft tall and a puppeteer controls her motion and tentacles from behind the platform. Flotsam and Jetsam are soft foam puppets whose heads were carved from a single block of foam and each has a blinking electoluminescent wire running down it's back
